Beatrice Ophelia is Flickering Out hit closer to home than I anticipated.

It's a cozy mystery in a small town, yes, but it's also a story about being a young adult who feels behind in life. And I have felt that so many times over the years. That's what really made the book for me, alongside the author's reminder that it's not too late to try something new or find your direction in life.

I also really connected to the splintered family storyline. It's amazing how one person can hold a family together and when they die, everything falls apart. But that doesn't mean we should give up on each other, as this book shows.

If you like small-town mysteries, estranged family subplots, and super cute romances, this is a great book to pick up and enjoy this summer.

My controversial bookish opinion is that I don't mind and even like it when the spines on my paperbacks break.

I know so many people work very carefully to maintain a pristine spine. And it's not like I'm out here purposely cracking the spines out of the gate.

But to me, they're like wrinkles on a face. They tell a story of how much the book has been read. You can tell which book in the Narnia series is my favorite by how worn the spine is. And I won't be changing that opinion anytime soon.

So, broken spines on paperbacks- yes or no?

I'm a huge Miss Peregrine's fan, so I was quite excited to read Ransom Riggs' first book in his new series. And it did not disappoint.

It had all the things I loved about Miss Peregrine's without being a repeat of last time. This one felt more traditionally magical, while still being original. I loved the world of magic being overlaid with our own. It's a twist on portal fantasy you don't see enough in my opinion.

And of course, there's Leopold. Watching him go from a coward and a loser at the start of the book to someone who takes action and takes charge by the end warmed my heart. We need more male protagonists like that these days.

If you're looking for a fun new fantasy read (with an awesome cover, might I add), you can't go wrong with this one.

March is historically my slowest reading month of the year. And... 2026 was no exception. I only go t through six books (which I know is a lot for some people, but is on the lower end for me).

But that's because I was traveling this month. I was out making memories with the people I love. I was hiking mountainous trails that I thought would kill me. And that's more important than reading the most books possible every month.
